Video-to-Video Generation
Video-to-video models take an existing clip and transform it — applying new styles, enhancing quality, changing visual characteristics, or reinterpreting the content while preserving motion and structure. The source clip provides the motion reference; the model provides the new look.
Use Cases
Section titled “Use Cases”- Style transfer — make footage look like animation, oil painting, or a specific film stock
- Enhancement — upscale resolution, improve lighting, reduce noise
- Creative reinterpretation — transform a live-action scene into a different visual language
- Consistent look development — apply the same transformation across multiple clips for a unified aesthetic
Step-by-Step
Section titled “Step-by-Step”1. Select a Video Clip
Section titled “1. Select a Video Clip”Click on a video clip on your Premiere Pro timeline, or select one in the Project Bin. modelBridge detects the selection and shows clip information in the media card — including dimensions, duration, file size, and format.
2. Choose a Video-to-Video Model
Section titled “2. Choose a Video-to-Video Model”Search for a video-to-video model using the model selector. Use the Video Gen filter chip to narrow results.
Not all video generation models are video-to-video. Look for models that accept a video input — the media card validation will confirm whether the model accepts your clip.
3. Write a Transformation Prompt
Section titled “3. Write a Transformation Prompt”The prompt describes the change you want, not the content of your clip. The model already sees your video — tell it what to do with it.
Good prompt:
“Convert to Studio Ghibli anime style, soft watercolor textures, warm palette”
Less effective prompt:
“A person walking down a street” (describes the existing clip, not the transformation)
Some models are prompt-optional — they apply a fixed transformation (like upscaling) without needing a text description.
4. Set Parameters
Section titled “4. Set Parameters”Adjust the settings below the prompt:
- Duration — some models let you control output length; others match the source clip
- Resolution — higher output resolution increases cost and processing time
- Strength / Fidelity — controls how much the model changes from the original (when available). Lower strength = closer to source, higher = more creative
5. Check Media Validation
Section titled “5. Check Media Validation”The media card shows real-time validation:
- Green border — your clip meets all model requirements
- Red border — something is wrong, with a specific error message
Common validation issues for video-to-video:

| Video too short | Clip is shorter than model’s minimum | Use a longer clip |
| Resolution too low | Source does not meet minimum dimensions | Use higher-res source footage |
| File too large | Source file exceeds upload limit | Compress or trim the clip |
If a model rejects your clip for a requirement not in its schema, the plugin learns that requirement and catches it automatically next time.
6. Check the Cost Estimate
Section titled “6. Check the Cost Estimate”Video-to-video generations are typically more expensive than image generation because the model processes every frame. Check the cost badge — duration and resolution are the main cost drivers.
7. Generate
Section titled “7. Generate”Click Generate. Video-to-video models can take longer than other categories — processing every frame of source video is compute-intensive. Expect 1–10 minutes depending on the model and clip length.
If the generation takes too long, it automatically moves to Background Generations so you can continue editing.
8. Review and Import
Section titled “8. Review and Import”When the result arrives:
- Import to Timeline — replaces the source clip at its exact position, duration, and scale
- Save to Project Bin — imports without replacing anything
- Preview in Source Monitor — evaluate before committing
The original clip is preserved in your Project Bin. Timeline replacement is non-destructive — undo with Cmd+Z.
Tips for Better Results
Section titled “Tips for Better Results”Start with short test clips. Generate a 2–3 second test at lower resolution before committing to a full clip at high quality. This saves money and time while you find the right model and prompt combination.
Match the model to the task. Upscaling models are different from style transfer models. An upscaler does not need a creative prompt; a style transfer model does. Check the model description in Model Search for guidance.
Preserve what matters. If maintaining the original motion and structure is important, look for models with a strength or fidelity parameter and keep it lower. If you want more dramatic transformation, increase it.
Common Issues
Section titled “Common Issues”Result loses the source motion
Section titled “Result loses the source motion”Some models prioritize the prompt over the source video. Try lowering the strength parameter or adding “maintain original motion” to your prompt. Different models handle source fidelity differently — try alternatives if one does not preserve enough.
Generation is very slow
Section titled “Generation is very slow”Video-to-video is the most compute-intensive category. Reduce duration or resolution for faster results. Consider using Background Generations to keep editing while you wait.
Output looks different from preview
Section titled “Output looks different from preview”The Source Monitor preview and the timeline version should be identical. If colors look different on the timeline, check your Premiere Pro color management settings (Lumetri scopes, HDR/SDR).
